OceanaGold’s Haile Gold Mine is offering three $1,000 Haile Opportunity Scholarships through the Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC) Foundation Scholarship Program in support of the company’s commitment to education and building a talented workforce.
The first scholarships will award for the 2022-2023 academic year.
“Haile Gold Mine is excited to work with our friends at Central Carolina Technical College to help students reach their academic goals,” Executive General Manager David Londono said. “We are proud to support our community through educational opportunities and look forward to seeing the positive impact this program will have in our area.”
Each recipient will receive support for a maximum of two years. Students can use the scholarship to pay tuition, books, associated fees, program-required tools, and necessary personal protective equipment.
Eligible Degree and Certificate programs at CCTC include Automotive Diagnostic Technology Certificate, Basic Machining and CNC Fundamentals Certificate, Advanced CNC Programming Certificate, Engineering Design Technology, Mechatronics Fundamentals Certificate, Basic Mechatronics Technology Certificate, Advanced Mechatronics Technology Certificate, Welding Certificate, Pipe Welding Certificate, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental, Health, and Safety Certificate, Wastewater Operator Certificate, Water Operator, and Natural Resource Management.
Students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to be eligible. A one-page personal statement illustrating the applicant’s goals, commitment to education and a description of how the scholarship will help the applicant achieve their goals and enable them to be productive employees is also required.
Students can apply for the scholarship directly through the school. CCTC representatives will carefully review each application and select three deserving recipients for the merit-based scholarship.
“When students are awarded an educational scholarship from the CCTC Foundation, they understand that not only do we support them in their educational journey, companies like OceanaGold want to help them succeed as well by removing financial barriers,” CCTC Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, Misty Hatfield said. “This new scholarship provides a path for students to reach their goals of higher education, promotion potential and skill development.”
Scholarship recipients remain eligible for Haile Gold Mine internship and apprenticeship programs. The scholarship is available to all current CCTC students as well as Haile employees furthering their education.
