Clemson University Cooperative Extension issued the following announcement on October 20.

Any farmer can tell you, not all fences are created equal. To even the odds, the Clemson University Extension Service is offering an in-person workshop on Fence Design and Construction.

“There are some things best learned with hands-on instruction and that includes fence construction and maintenance,” said Chris LeMaster, a Clemson livestock and forages agent for Cherokee and York counties who is hosting the workshop.

Workshop participants will learn proper fence planning and construction techniques in a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on demonstration, LeMaster said. The class will also give an overview of fencing materials and proper maintenance.

The workshop is free and will be held Friday, Oct. 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the Davidson farm in York, S.C.

An RSVP is required. Participants may register by emailing Amy Mallet, rmallet@clemson.edu.

More information is available on the York County Cooperative Extension web site at

In addition to Clemson Extension, the workshop is sponsored by AgSouth Farm Credit; Farm Bureau of York County; All Stock Fencing, LLC; and Stay-Tuff Fence Mfg., Inc.
