Central Carolina Technical College: Sandhills Medical Foundation Contributes $20,000 To CCTC

Central Carolina Technical College issued the following announcement on August 24.

Sumter and Kershaw, SC (08/24/2021) — As a partner in education for the region, Sandhills Medical Foundation has made a contribution to Central Carolina Technical College to benefit Health Sciences students.

On August 18, 2021, the CCTC Foundation was awarded a check for $20,000 from the Sandhills Medical Foundation to be used for student scholarships.

As a patient centered medical home provider, Sandhills Medical Foundation, Inc. (SMF) provides comprehensive healthcare to all individuals. SMF delivers services such as primary care, behavioral health, onsite pharmacy and laboratory services. With locations in Kershaw and soon-to-open in Sumter, Sandhills also provides healthcare services in the community such as patient education, flu shots and health screenings such as blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and HIV rapid testing.

The gift is designed to benefit students who demonstrate a financial need, plan to pursue a degree or certificate in the health sciences fields and will be split equally between Sumter and Kershaw students.

The check was presented by the Sandhills Medical Foundation Board Chair Paul Napper and Board Treasurer Larry Baker to CCTC President Dr. Kevin Pollock and the Foundation Board of Trustees. Napper is also chair of the CCTC Area Commission.

Support of valuable educational offerings is reflected in this $20,000 gift to Central Carolina Technical College. “Sandhills Medical Foundation considers this an investment in the future of healthcare,” Napper said.

Awarding of the scholarships is handled by the CCTC Foundation.

“Central Carolina is honored to have been chosen to receive this generous gift from Sandhills Medical Foundation,” Dr. Pollock said. “Both organizations share the same goal of the highest level of excellence in healthcare and education.”

Sandhills Medical Foundation, Inc. has been providing quality comprehensive health care since 1977. It is a federally qualified community health center (FQHC) serving residents of Chesterfield, Kershaw, Lancaster and Sumter counties. Community Health Centers are community-based and patient-directed organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care. These include low income populations, the uninsured, those with limited English proficiency, migrant and seasonal farmworkers, individuals and families experiencing homelessness, and those living in public housing.

The Central Carolina Technical College Foundation, Inc. is governed by a Board of Trustees separate from the Area Commission for Central Carolina Technical College and is dedicated to expanding the goals and mission of the college. The CCTC Foundation is operated exclusively for charitable
