City of Sumter issued the following announcement on August 19.
Following an influx of mobile homes in need of roofing repairs, council unanimously approved a resolution to establish a pilot grant program for certain repairs of eligible owner-occupied mobile homes. The program will use funds from the city's allocation under the American Rescue Plan.
When requests for assistance first came to council, the City of Sumter was not able to help with repairs because mobile homes were not covered by community development housing rehabilitation programs.
This $100,000 pilot program will create a different avenue through the city to assist homeowners who are in need of roofing repairs. However, the program will only assist owner-occupied mobile homes that are 20 years or older that are not eligible for other community development programs.
The Mobile Home Roof Repair Application is now available for download on our website https://www.sumtersc.gov/communitydevelopment or at our Community Development Office, located at 12 W. Liberty Street.
