53 percent of applicants to South Carolina State University were admitted for fall 2018

At South Carolina State University, 92 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 50 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Orangeburg enrolled 3,022 students in fall 2018, including 2,430 in undergraduate and 592 in graduate programs, data shows. 7 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

83 percent of undergraduates are residents of South Carolina, and 16 percent are residents of other states. 1 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as Black or African American (95 percent) and white (2 percent).

The school admitted 53 percent of the 3,415 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 30 percent enrolled.
