56 percent of applicants to Claflin University were admitted for fall 2018

At Claflin University, 90 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 68 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year private not-for-profit institution in Orangeburg enrolled 2,172 students in fall 2018, including 2,080 in undergraduate and 92 in graduate programs, data shows. 3.9 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

83 percent of undergraduates are residents of South Carolina, and 15 percent are residents of other states. 2 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as Black or African American (92 percent) and American Indian or Alaska Native (1 percent).

The school admitted 56 percent of the 9,678 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 10 percent enrolled.
