South Carolina State wins sixth straight MEAC men’s tennis championship

South Carolina State secured its sixth consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s tennis championship with a 4–0 win over Norfolk State on April 25 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.

The victory gives South Carolina State the MEAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament. The team will learn its tournament placement during the NCAA Selection Show scheduled for Monday, April 27, at 4 p.m.

South Carolina State took an early lead by winning the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles team won their match 6–2, while the No. 2 pair defeated Boris Lunin and Szymon Jansen with a score of 7–5. Norfolk State earned a win at No. 3 doubles as Szymon Malecki and Marcin Andrzejczak posted a 6–4 victory.

In singles play, South Carolina State clinched victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 positions to secure its overall win and capture its twenty-first MEAC men’s tennis title.

All-tournament honors were announced following the championship match: Outstanding Coach was awarded to South Carolina State’s coach; Outstanding Player went to a member of South Carolina State; Novak Novakvoic was recognized in No.1 Doubles for South Carolina State; Boris Lunin & Szymon Jansen were honored in No.2 Doubles for Norfolk State; Szymon Malecki & Marcin Andrzejczak received recognition in No.3 Doubles for Norfolk State; individual singles awards included players from South Carolina State, Howard, Norfolk State, North Carolina Central, and others.

The Bulldogs now await their seeding in the national tournament as they continue their run of success within conference play.
