The South Carolina State University softball team will face Charleston Southern University in a non-conference doubleheader on April 8 at the CSU Softball Complex in Charleston, South Carolina.
This matchup gives both teams an opportunity to compete outside their respective conferences. South Carolina State enters the games with a record of 13-12 overall and 8-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), while Charleston Southern holds a 7-32 overall record and is 2-10 in Big South Conference play.
Charleston Southern leads the all-time series against South Carolina State, having won 32 out of their previous meetings since 1996. The last meeting between these teams took place on March 30, 2022, when Charleston Southern secured a victory with a score of 12-0 after five innings. The first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the second game at 6 p.m. Both games will be available for viewing on ESPN+.
In their most recent outings, South Carolina State won two out of three games against Norfolk State during MEAC play at Lady Bulldog Softball Field. They posted wins of 6-2 and 11-5 (in five innings) before losing the final game by a score of 2-1. Meanwhile, Charleston Southern recently dropped two league games to Radford with scores of 0-5 (five innings) and narrowly lost another match before earning a win by defeating Radford in the final contest with a score of 1-0.
South Carolina State University competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level across fourteen sports programs, including women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, cross country, basketball, indoor and outdoor track & field, softball, women’s soccer, and football. All athletic teams except women’s soccer participate in MEAC competition.
