South Carolina State softball secures first win over Charleston Southern in 21 years

The South Carolina State University softball team defeated Charleston Southern University on April 8, marking its first victory over the opponent in more than two decades. The Lady Bulldogs won both games of a non-conference doubleheader at CSU Softball Complex with scores of 3-2 and 7-2.

This win brings South Carolina State’s record to 15-13 overall and 8-3 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The last time the Lady Bulldogs beat Charleston Southern was on April 19, 2005, when they secured a 4-1 victory in Orangeburg.

In the first game, South Carolina State scored three runs on eight hits with three runs batted in (RBIs), one double, and one triple across twenty-eight at bats. The second game saw the Lady Bulldogs extend their lead with seven runs from twelve hits, seven RBIs, two doubles, and one triple over thirty-two at bats.

The team is scheduled to host Maryland Eastern Shore for a three-game MEAC series beginning Saturday, April 11. The series will start with a doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by another game at 2 p.m., and conclude on Sunday, April 12 at noon inside Lady Bulldog Softball Field.

South Carolina State University’s athletic program competes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level. The university fields teams in fourteen sports including women’s volleyball; men’s and women’s tennis; men’s and women’s cross country; men’s and women’s basketball; men’s and women’s indoor track & field; softball; men’s and women’s outdoor track & field; women’s soccer; and football. All teams compete in the MEAC except for women’s soccer.
