South Carolina State men’s tennis to face UCF in NCAA Championship opening round

South Carolina State University’s men’s tennis team will play against the University of Central Florida in the first round of the Men’s NCAA Tennis Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, according to an April 29 announcement.

This match marks South Carolina State’s entry into the national tournament after securing their sixth consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title. The team has a season record of 13 wins and 7 losses.

UCF, which finished its regular season with a record of 20-6, recently competed in the Big 12 Championship Tournament and lost narrowly to Arizona by a score of 3-4. The Knights will host South Carolina State along with teams from Florida and Stetson at their home venue for this round.

The matches are scheduled for Friday, May 1. Florida will face Stetson at 2:00 PM on North Collegiate Courts (7-12), followed by UCF versus South Carolina State at 5:00 PM on the same courts. Winners from these matches will compete on Saturday, May 2 at 5:00 PM for advancement in the tournament.

According to South Carolina State University, its athletic program competes at National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level and fields teams across fourteen sports including men’s and women’s tennis. All teams except women’s soccer participate in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
