The Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State defeated Coppin State in six innings to move forward to face Delaware State at 8 p.m., according to a May 6 announcement.
This win is important as it advances South Carolina State further in the tournament, keeping their championship hopes alive and demonstrating their strong performance on both offense and defense.
Dymond Round pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing only three hits over six innings. Offensively, one player led with two hits, including a home run and three runs batted in. Ellanie Yarr added two hits and two RBIs. Another player reached base multiple times and scored twice, helping boost the Bulldogs’ offense from the middle of the lineup.
South Carolina State built an early lead by scoring seven runs over the first four innings while limiting Coppin State to just two baserunners during that time. The Eagles had their best opportunity in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases but could not score. They added two more baserunners in the sixth but were again held scoreless.
For Coppin State, Kylee Sandino collected two of her team’s three hits while Camaren Corbett had the other hit. Emily Quintero and Julianna Mejia each drew walks for Coppin’s limited offensive effort. Tatjana Harris allowed five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over four-and-a-third innings pitched, while Debra Hyde gave up the final run that ended the game in the sixth inning.
With this victory, South Carolina State continues its postseason journey with momentum as they prepare for their next matchup.
