Pruitthealth Orangeburg held the position of third largest nursing facility in Orangeburg County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports.

The facility offered 88 beds, which is eight fewer than the county average for the same timeframe. The center provided care to an average of 78.2 residents per day in that quarter.

The CMS awarded Pruitthealth Orangeburg an overall rating of 3 out of 5, matching the statewide average for nursing homes in South Carolina.

Within that quarter, The Oaks Post Acute had the most beds among county nursing homes at 122, followed by Edisto Post Acute with 113 beds.

Pruitthealth Orangeburg incurred one penalty and paid $3,728 in fines as of the first quarter of 2026.

There were a total of four for-profit nursing homes operating in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.

U.S. Census Bureau figures show the country’s older adult population keeps increasing, while younger age cohorts decline. The 65-and-older group grew by 13% from 2020 to 2024, as the population under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, America’s older adult population expanded from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis estimates that nearly half of all older adults—about 28 million people—could need long-term services and supports, with over a third foreseen to require nursing home care eventually.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an educational insurance group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
